Why Our House Banned the "S" Word

Recently we've made the decision to ban a particular word from our house. Just in the last few weeks we are realizing how much Lorelai hears and understands us....even if she doesn't look like it. At almost 22 months old, our little girl is smart...really smart. It's amazing what suggestions or things we say that she comprehends.  We've learned at night we cannot talk about what is going on the next day (whether it is the zoo, or a trip or grandma coming over) because it makes her not want to go to bed. Even the mention of going to Sunday class at church makes her cry, and she understands so many commands like "wouldn't you like to sit with the other kids during story time?" (A personally proud moment that happened yesterday at the library, where she got off my lap to sit with the other kids).
It is this level of comprehension that has made us decided to ban this word from our house.

My mom was the first to point this out to me. I took it to heart a…

5 Months Pregnant: Hello Second Lunch

Monday at work I realized I was not going to get through the day on what I'd brought for lunch....here comes second lunch phase of pregnancy.

I eat lunch at 11 a.m (sometimesusually always taking a piece of fruit out of my lunch around 9:45 to get me through until lunch. That 6:15 breakfast can only last so long) and although I leave work at 3:30....I often have an errand to run, photo session, or in best case scenario I get home at 4 p.m. At that time, I run to the bathroom (say hi to Lorelai and invite her to go "tinkle" with mom since we are at the early stages of potty training) and go straight back to the kitchen for my dinner.

So in walks second lunch. This hits me right about 1:00....when I realize, "wait a minute, I'm going to starve by the end of the day if I don't eat something."

I stopped by the grocery story on Monday for some snacks for the rest of the week chex mix, granola bars and sushi for my second lunch that day (California roll for th…

Baby (Number 2) Journal: Week 21

Dear Pepper,

We got to see you again on the ultrasound this week, which was really exciting! You were bouncing all over the place, and Lorelai got to see you too! Lorelai knew it was a baby on the monitor, and got the concept that you were in my tummy, and once this week she unprompted came up and said "Pepper" and patted my tummy.

They say you are over a pound now, and that you are 70+ percentile in size. Still, your due date is right on track! Please come out on your own (you'd be my favorite child if you do!)

We did have an event where I was referred to a hospital to get a leg pain checked out in case of blood clot, which thankfully was nothing...other than that, things are going well!

You're giving me a lot more walking pain then your sister ever did. It's causing me to rethink a few of my activities due to the aches I get the following day.

I'll be honest, a lot of what is keeping me positive this pregnancy is knowing that I never intend to do this....eve…

Baby (Number 2) Journal: 20 Weeks

Dear Pepper

"Oh....we're halfway there!" and thank goodness we are! Life this week was a little different, as most of the week I spent out of town at a work conference. Baby is doing well, but just feeling bigger and bigger by the day!

We only have a few trips left before you arrive. You aren't getting to travel as much as Lorelai did when she was in my tummy...but it isn't you (its because of your big sister!)

I love that you are moving around so much lately, it is my absolute favorite (maybe only perk) of pregnancy. That is the thing I missed when Lorelai was born. Your dad actually got to feel you move this week, which is awesome! It shocked us both, but you gave a really good kick.

This week we saw the musical "Dear Evan Hansen" and it really made me think about those hard parenting days that will come up when you are older. When you go through the awkward teen years, and think your dad and I are against you...when really we will be your biggest fan…

Monster's Masquerade: Win 4 Tickets

Have you been paying attention to all the awesome events being held by the Omaha Children's Museum this next month? October is full of great events and activities for dressing the kids up in costumes (if you're like us, also an excuse for mom and dad to dress up!)

Kevin and I absolutely love dressing up for Halloween....and try to keep costumes a surprise! This year we are working on 2 costumes for Lorelai because we love it so much. Hint: One of them is a superhero that I've been sewing this week, and we will be debuting it at the DC vs Marvel event at OCM.

The other event we are most excited about at the museum this October, is the exclusive Monster's Masquerade (Exclusive means tickets will be limited, so grab them while you can!)

The Monster's Masquerade is on October 20th from 6:00- 9:00 pm. A few things you'll see there: mini pumpkin painting, monster-themed activities and crafts, tasty treats and live music from the Beatles cover band "Come Together…

Trip Planning for Next Year

Do you have a trip you're planning to take next year? This is the perfect time of year to start thinking ahead on those big trips you want for 2019....and racking up those bonus miles for your flights! We find the best way for us to get those big bonus miles that pay for our flights, is through credit card offers.
Personally, we like to go directly to the airline we are most likely to fly to obtain the credit card. Since we fly out of Omaha, that means we are most likely to fly Delta  or Southwest

The perk about Delta  is with the card you get a free checked bag when you book using your card, and a free checked bag for anyone you book with your card. So for a couple, if you use your card for the trips, you both will have a free checked bag. And if you click this link, the Delta card will get you 60,000 bonus points for signing up and using the card (make sure to spend the required amount in the first few months to get the max points!)
As we've said before, Southwest is our…

Baby (Number 2) Journal: 19 Weeks

Dear Pepper,

You're growing like a weed! My appetite is up, but it still isn't for those healthy things I should be eating. You're the size of a mango, but I feel like I'm the size of a basketball...which isn't totally fair.

The end of the week was a bit of a mess, not that pregnancy changed any of that, but it probably contributed a bit. I heard once that pregnant people handle a crisis better (assuming we aren't being completely emotional) because our body tells us that Number 1 Priority is that baby is healthy and doing okay....so if the crisis doesn't involve harm to our baby, we chemically say "Okay, no biggie, lets do this." I think my body did a little of that this week when I had my car broken into (and subsequently backed into another car in the parking lot after the fact....I'll save that for another time). It happened, it sucked...but we got through it just fine.

So what about you? Nursery planning took a bit of a backseat this week…
