Baby (Number 2) Journal: Week 16

Hi Baby,

Well, the wait is over...we know now that you are a girl! We could not be more thrilled that you and Lorelai will be sisters...and the best of sisters! I think your dad and I are taking an "Okay, we can do this!" approach now that we know what we are in for again.

Again another uneventful week. Now though, I am able to plan and unpack baby clothes in drawers and do all the things I've been dying to do once we knew you were a girl!

We've also officially picked a name, which we will be announcing soon! It may seem early, but we are just one of those couples that we when we know....we know. We are already working with Lorelai on her little sister's name, which is a lot of fun. Middle names have never been something we are very good at picking out, so that is still to come!

Tile: How I don't lose my mind

I own 3 different Tiles, and these things allow me to not absolutely lose my mind. Never heard of Tile? They are these little Bluetooth clips that you attach to any device you tend to lose (for me...it is most often keys). You then use an app on your phone to indicate you are looking for that item. Click the item you are trying to find, and the Tile will start playing a little song to allow you to locate! Score!!

I cannot tell you the number of times I've used this running out of the house for work, and I'm about to wake Kevin up to help me search for keys....when I remember I have my tile, open the app...and ta-dah! Keys found.

You can also use it the opposite way, and push the button on your tile to find your phone! Easy!

The best part? These things are so incredibly cheap for what they do! The 4-packs right now are 50% off, which means it is just $10 a tile!! Score! I also love how easy the setup is. Download the app, click the button the the Tile...and they are synced and…

We're Having A.....

Well, I must say it has been a whirlwind lately. When we arrived at the ultrasound, the tech started with "So how are we going to do this?" and I was sitting there thinking "Um....I lay on a table, pull my pants down uncomfortably low while you spread what I can only assume to be hair gel on my lower abdomen. Then proceed to shove a hard plastic stick into my bladder....after you told me it needed to be so full I was about to wet myself."

My look clearly gave away what I was thinking, as she quickly said "Do you want to know? Am I writing it down? Are you doing a big reveal?" and that was when I realized what she meant. I laughed and explained "Oh, no I want to know. No big party, just me being impatient." Then she continued to ask me a million questions like what I thought it was, whether I had the same symptoms, did I have a boy or girl at home already to which I was mostly in shock before realizing this was her small talk...and my answers wer…

Why Schrödinger's Cat Made Me Cry: Gender Reveal

I'll start by telling you that I know I'm emotional right now....like I'd say a full on wreck. When Kevin found me bawling last night, all I could get out was "It's Schrödinger's Cat!"

If you don't know Schrödinger's Cat, it can be summarized as this: If you put a cat in a box (with deadly chemicals), and you don't look in the box...the cat is both dead and alive when inside the box. It is only once you look in the box that the cat becomes one or the other.

What does this have to do with my pregnancy emotions? Finding out the gender of our baby.
This week we find out the gender of our baby, and I was shocked to find out that as the date grows nearer....I am so emotionally torn about my preference on whether our 2nd born would be a boy or girl that I was in tears.
So as I explained to Kevin, right now it is possible that it could be both a boy and a girl and it is only once I get that ultrasound that I know which it is. Kevin (the rational one…

Working (Outside the Home) Mom

You'll have to excuse me...as I don't know the politically correct term for "Working Mom". Whether it is working outside the home, working parent, breadwinner....no idea. What Kevin does at home with Lorelai is by no means less important than what I do when I go to work on the weekdays, so for brevity's sake I'm calling it "Working Mom" for the remainder of this post (assume positive intent with that term).

I'm a working mom. I've been a Working Mom for about a year and a half now. I went back to work when my daughter was 8 weeks old, and that was when my Working Mom status began. Actually when my daughter was just 3 weeks old I went back to my MBA classes, so I first had the title of "Mom in School" before "Working Mom"
My biggest concern of being a Working Mom was missing her "firsts". Thankfully, I don't feel like I missed many "firsts" with Lorelai as a working mom yet. I'm missing a few mor…

Baby (Number 2) Journal: Week 15

Hi Baby,

I'm actually to the point I'm not quite sure what to say about this week. It was relatively uneventful. I do still feel you move every now and again, which is always nice! Energy and appetite has picked up, but not a lot else to report! As my sister likes to remind me, uneventful pregnancies are good pregnancies...so no complaints here!

Next week is the week I've been waiting for...when I find out whether you are a boy or a girl! I'll be honest, we started with a ton of boy names, then never really decided on one we loved. However, we recently picked a girl name that we really love. I've been told its a unisex name, but Kevin and I disagree. We've never been one to keep names quiet, so I'm sure once we've officially picked, the cat will be out of the bag. The boy name is still 100% up in the air....we don't even have any big contenders at the moment.

I'm trying to stay away from buying maternity clothes this round, but I was in desperat…

10 Month Update: Paid Off Half the House

If you've followed us for a while now, you know that our passion is paying off debt. Whether you joined us when we were first married and started with $100,000 of student loan debt, or if you joined us later in our journey with our first home purchase...we love the topic of paying off debt.

Why? Because there is nothing quite like becoming debt-free and having the freedom to make decisions based on what you want to do with your life, rather than what your debt is forcing you to do.
The house we live in now, we purchased at the very end of October of 2017 (last year). In one sense, it was purchased on a bit of whim, but in another we set ourselves up to be able to purchase a new home when the "right one" came along.

This month we are celebrating having half our house paid off! Let me clarify, we have not paid off half our mortgage amount, we simply have a mortgage now that is less than half of what we paid for our house, which is still an accomplishment for us!
How are we…
