Baby (Number 2) Journal: Week 7

Hi Baby,

You're making me sick. My sickness is more of all day, or even primarily evening sickness. I think that is better than your sister though, who made me cry during Week 7 (see post here)

Apart from a constant general yucky feeling, and aversion to anything that isn't cookies and icecream and the occasional Popsicle...I don't feel too pregnant yet. My pants are buttoning just fine (thank goodness) although I know that won't last long. I'm very aware that the internet tells me for my 2nd child my pants will stop fitting earlier than before, which I'm not looking forward to!

Your sister is practicing with more of her baby dolls lately (okay mostly her iron man and spider man action figures) but we've got to assume she is getting a little practice in.

One of my most difficult things in pregnancy is striving to get enough protein. Meat has never been a favorite thing of mine, and especially not so while pregnant. There are only so many servings of greek yo…

Are you "Wealthy?"

I read the book "The Millionaire Nextdoor" last month, and found it absolutely fascinating. Now before you go out and pick this book up based on my recommendation, I need to tell you...its unusual. Its a book full of facts on American Millionaires....and it may not be what you think.

It is breaking through the idea that most millionaires received a giant inheritance, or work on Wall Street in big corporate jobs...becoming a millionaire is so much more about lifestyle choices than your income or where you came from.

For most of us, we aren't going to be Millionaire's by 30...so how can you tell if you are on the right track for living within your means and becoming wealthy? Well, I loved this formula that the book provided:

1. Multiple your age times your realized pretax annual household income form all sources (including your side hustle). Do not include any inheritances.
2. Divide by 10.
3. This what your net worth* should be today
4. If your net worth* is significantl…

Lorelai: 18 Months

Our beautiful baby girl is 18 months old this week---I can officially start saying she is 1 1/2. This stage has been SO MUCH FUN!!!

She is amazing. Like blows my mind the things she can do and say and all of that. She is constantly learning new words, still loves reading more than anything (if she is crying, you can ask her to go pick out a book and she will snuggle up for a good read) and is becoming extra silly.

We love water and being outside, like playing at the water table or in the kiddie pool in the backyard. The zoo is still a favorite place of ours, but we also love the library.

Bubbles are a new fascination this week.

Lorelai is still an awesome sleeper, with a consistent 12 hours at night an 2-3 hour nap during the day.

She is still a picky eater, and we never know what food she will eat at any given time. Fruit is usually a safe bet, but other than that...we never know.

She has a mouth full of teeth, had her first hair cut about a month ago. She seems a bit tall for her ag…

Baby (Number 2) Journal: Week 6

Hi Baby,

Its been 2 weeks now that I've been sick with a cold. The beauty of pregnancy is that my immune system is down, all the while I'm forbidden from taking any medications to assist with the cold. Add that to the already sleepless nights of getting up every 4 hours due to vivid dreams and having to use the bathroom...its a real treat.

None of that is your fault. These next 2 years are basically a "short term pain, long term gain" philosophy. We are preparing for you to have just as much colic as your sister did.

With your big sister at Week 6 we were seeing Broadway shows, eating sushi and house hunting. I'd also started experiencing morning sickness.

Compared to Week 6 with Lorelai--This week I didn't get any sushi, but we did go see a show (Brian Regan) for a date night! And thank goodness we are not house hunting. Speaking of, you are going to love our "new" house. Lorelai loved the carpet when she was crawling, much more so than the hard wo…

Preparing for our Toddler Trifecta Trip

In 10 short days, we are taking a "trifecta" toddler trip. Flights...Roadtrip....and *gulp* international travel.

What does that look like for us?

Flights- We are flying from Omaha to Buffalo/Niagara, NY. Per usual, we are flying Southwest and making serious use of our Companion pass. However, there wasn't a great way to get up to Niagra so we have a little longer flights than we would have otherwise liked.

Roadtrip- There we are renting a car.

International Travel- We will be driving to Niagra Falls, and up to Toronto to spend a family fun filled few days in Canada.

What have been some challenges for planning this trip?

The biggest challenge for us was the roadtrip/flight combination. When flying Southwest, we have never had an issue with needing to minimize our packing, as we always pack in just 2 suitcases (when we can have 4 if we would like). And since I drive an awesome mini van, roadtrips haven't been an issue either, as we can pack way more than we would ever use…

How Google Home Makes My Life As A Parent Easier

Around the same time we became parents, we purchased our first google home. Now 1.5 years later...we have an additional 3 google homes, and 2 alexas....because we absolutely love them.

Debate all you want about how "big brother" can listen in on my conversations and knows more about me than I do myself. I've decided its simply the way of the future, and there have to be more interesting people than our little family to listen to each day!

Here are a few ways we use (or could use) our google home to make life a little easier.

Hands free clock- This sounds so silly, but the number of times I'm wrestling our toddler to get shoes on, or in the middle of Dr. Seuss book neither of us want to put down, it is easy to ask google what time it is, so we don't have to stop everything just to find out we have another 10 minutes before we need to leave the house.

Hands free ETA- Along with the above, asking google how long it will take to get to X.

Bedroom heater/fan control- We …

Baby (Number Two) Journal: Week 5

Dear Baby,

We finally got around to telling your grandparents about you! We were waiting for this mug to arrive for father's day, to surprise them.

They were surprised, but it took quite a while of them looking at the drawing to realize there was an extra person in the photo!
So far still feeling good and haven't had any pregnancy related yucky-ness! I've been sick this week, and so has your big sister Lorelai.

We picked up a double stroller online already. One thing you'll learn about me is I try to be prepared for things as soon as possible...that means buying a stroller 8 months before I'll actually start using it.

The nursery has been our big project this week. We got shelves for your room this week, and worked on the nightstands for the guest bedroom part. A crocodile stuffed animal arrived in the mail along with a "Nana" dog for your Peter Pan nursery.

Pregnancy this time around has been different. I'm not in a hurry. Although I'd love to me…
