We Grow As One: Aksarben Village

Do you know what Nebraska spelled backwards is? Aksarben! We absolutely love how vibrant this area of Omaha has become. Nestled next to the Omaha college campus, this area is full of surprises.

Our favorite thing about Aksarben Village is their Sunday farmer's market, where you can buy trinkets, clothes, produce, baked goods...all sorts of wonderful things! They also offer specialty events and markets, such as the Holiday Market! This year it will be December 2 & 3rd, it is an amazing event you don't want to miss!

If you're visiting in the morning, stop by Juice Stop for a quick and delicious morning treat! Healthy fruit smoothies with no sugary purees! There are few things I love more than a good smoothie.

Ready for a few of our favorite Aksarben Village eateries?Mai Thaihas two locations now, but my personal favorite location is Aksarben Village. Delicious Asian Fusion. I'm a bit of a spice-whimp so I especially love that you get to specifically identify the level…

Moving Week!

We closed on our new home on Tuesday, and have a busy week ahead of us moving our belongings to the new house. We are looking forward to settling in to our new place and starting this new phase of our lives!

Lorelai LOVES the new house...but is a little unsure of her new room. Here is to a crazy week of packing.

Did I mention Kevin and I have moved 4 times in the 4.5 years we've been married? All to different places around the city of Omaha. We are excited to have found a home we can stay in for a very very long time!

We Grow As One: Elkhorn

Elkhorn is a community unique to the Omaha area. There are a number of new build areas of Elkhorn, however, what I love most is the little more historic downtown area that still has the small town charm.

Perhaps on your next trip you'd like to visit Fala's Treasures and Coffee House! They boast hosting over 40 local artists in their store, all of which come together for cohesive decor shopping! This area of town is perfect for finding purposed items, each one unique!

Two Birds Bakery is the cutest little bakery in Elkhorn.  Part of their philosophy is to support their local farmers, which means you are doubly supporting the local community by eating at the local bakery that also supports our local farmers! The only thing I love more than a good cupcake...is a delicious cookie! Try their "Chai Love You" next time you visit!

Ready for some dinner after your dessert (dessert always come first in my book!) in the heart of downtown Elkhorn sits Bella Vita Ristorante. The a…

Two Baby Books That Impacted Our First Year Parenting

There were two books I was very glad I read as a new mom. This year I haven't really followed either of them, but it was the concept/mindset around each that made me glad I read a few books while Lorelai was still itty bitty. I would say these were most helpful for me during the first 3 months when we were really overwhelmed and still finding our r
hythm.

Bringing Up Bebe- My favorite thing about this was learning that Parisians implement what the book calls "The Pause". It means before jumping up and cuddling baby at a whimper, you wait to see what that whimper means. At 6 weeks we were able to tell the difference between crying when she is still asleep (and therefore picking her up actually wakes her rather than letting her fall back asleep...which takes only about 20 seconds for Lorelai), crying because she is hungry, or crying because something hurts. It has a lot of suggestions for parenting through about age 6.
Baby Wise- I've heard a lot about Baby Wise over t…

We Grow As One: Blackstone District

The Blackstone District is rich in history, but has very recently been revived into a hip new area of Omaha. Just a few blocks from Midtown, which is full of shiny new parks and buildings, the Blackstone District has kept a lot of the original charm.

We agree that our favorite pizza place in all of Omaha comes from Noli's Pizzeria. The pizza served here is large, and just one size. What makes it our favorite pizza place is, hands-down, the crust. The first time we took a bite of their delicious crust, we felt transported back to Europe, more specifically Italy, where we eloped just 5 years ago. A pizza from Noli's always makes us smile.

Archetype Coffee. I must say, if you are a true coffee connoisseur this is a must-try in Omaha. I love an excellently crafted latte, and Archetype has nailed it. If you love a fancy drink from a chain coffee shop...this probably isn't your ideal coffee shop. But if you love latte art (which I do!) certainly check it out.

If you've read o…

Baby Journal: 10 months

Dear Lorelai,

This past month can be described in one word "attitude!" You are growing into your own little person, and you have so much 'tude its spilling out everywhere. It is so hard not to laugh when you make a face and spit out food you don't like, or get tight lipped with refusal to open your mouth. You love to go....crawl, walk around the coffee table, get up on your tip-toes and grab things you aren't supposed to...you have to be doing something at all times. But, you will sit and read a book any time, any place. Books are your absolute favorite toys, and always have been.

You still have no teeth...not a single one, but that's okay! You have started standing on your own every now and again but you only do it when you don't realize it...which usually comes in the form of holding two toys in your hands and refusing to let go, so you no longer are holding onto anything.
You smile at everything....the window, strangers...a blank wall? Literally everyth…

10 Month Photos: Rapunzel

Our little Rapunzel is 10 months old! I can't believe our big our little doll has gotten this month. We had such a fun time at the park capturing this stage of her life!
