Baby Eczema

Baby Eczema is so frustrating as a new parent. Lorelai had a pretty rough case of it for a while. After her face got all blotchy, we were told that not only did she have baby acne but she had eczema on top of it. Then to top it all of (pun intended) she had cradle cap. It started when she was around 6-8 weeks old.

It lasted for about a month, before it started to go away and we learned how to keep it under control. She still has it pretty badly in those adorable little thigh rolls I love so much, and we put medicine on it about 3x a day. We still have some flaking on her head as well. Don't get me wrong, she was and still is the most beautiful baby in the entire world, with or without her eczema

Why do I bring this up?
Because I searched everywhere for a cure and it was such a difficult experience for me. Although it didn't appear to bother her when she was younger (although now she does scratch the backs of her legs a lot, where her rolls are--despite our efforts of medicine…

Summer is Leaving...Along with my home and my 20's

I don't know where summer went...but it seems to have just flown by. Fall does not mean slowing down here, rather it is full speed ahead for us. Let's talk a little bit about what has been going on.

First, I've come to terms...I'm finally admitting I'm 30 years old. Yep, this blog no longer references that we are 20-somethings, because that is a lie. As of this week, I am 30. Let me say it out loud "Thur-Tee" Ugh. That's a huge number. I will never again have an age that starts with a "2" and that is depressing.
That's okay, because here we like to focus on the awesomeness that is the Millennial generation. And you know what, statistically a lot of Millennials are already 30...and they are rocking it. And we are going to be joining in on that awesomeness. "Thirty Flirty and Thriving!" all the way! Why is thirty so awesome? Well, I'm not sure yet because I'm new to this whole 3-0 thing...but I'll figure it out and wi…

Parent of a Crawler

I've quickly learned that parenting is all down hill from here.  The first 8 months, each "accomplishment" of Lorelai's seemed to make our lives a little easier. There was sleeping through the night, smiling, rolling over, sitting up (my personal favorite), eating (I had no idea how much easier this would make my life. A handful of cheerios can keep her occupied for 30 minutes....amazing)...all of which made everything she did more wonderful, more enjoyable, and somehow each of her accomplishments felt like our accomplishments.

And then there was crawling. It was the most anticipated of all the accomplishments, her little downward-dog yoga pose went on for about 2 months before she actually put her knees down and started moving. And then....wait....
Where did you go?
It was that fast. I went from knowing about where my daughter was at all times, to cutting up an avocado in the kitchen, looking down and seeing her almost step off the landing headfirst towards the bas…

We Grow As One: Benson

We are kicking off our highlight of Omaha's local economy and our unique sense of community, with one of the areas closest to our home...Benson!  Technically we live exactly 1 mile from both Benson and Dundee, but I couldn't decide which of these vibrant local communities to highlight first!  Therefore, the obvious choice was to start in alphabetical order.
BENSON
If you're an Omaha native, Benson is likely not the same Benson you grew up with. Actually, to be honest none of these communities are anything like what they were when I graduated high school 11 years ago. What I especially love about Benson is what I call the "young professional" vibe. It's not something I can put my finger on...but rather it's a feeling.
Our favorite places in Benson? Well let me tell you!

Ted & Wally's- You may be thinking "Wait a minute...this awesome ice cream shop is downtown!" And although you would be correct, they opened up a shop here just in the last …

We Grow as One

Omaha has this amazing sense of community. Since I grew up here, I often take that for granted. Kevin (born and raised in Colorado) does a great job of reminding me how special this community is. As many of our readers remember, we bought a house last year, and one of the reasons we bought were we did was the sense of community and location to everything else we do (work, school, or weekend activities). We have just about anything we need within 10 minutes of our home. Even better, we have this thriving small business population around us.

We live in the Country Club area of Omaha. If you're from Omaha, you may know this as that little section of homes squeezed somewhere between Benson and Dundee. That means we are just minutes from everything Benson, Dundee, Blackstone, Aksarben and Downtown Omaha have to offer (5 of the most unique and amazing communities in the state, I dare say).

In celebrating Omaha's local economy and our unique sense of community, we've decided to go…

Baby Journal: 8 Months

Dear Lorelai,
I was able to handle you turning 7 months, but 8 months is just TOO old. You are an absolute joy right now. When I get home from work, you turn and smile at me like I'm your favorite person in the world (then turn right back around and give the exact same smile to your dad...whom you've been with all day...so it takes a little bit of the fun out of it).

You're crawling! You have the daintiest little crawl and I love it. It is dainty but powerful...as you are getting into everything (and eating anything you can find on the ground...our roomba is running every day and you still find things!)
Food you love: avocados, prunes, pears, oatmeal and bananas.  Foods you don't love as much: Peas
The rest you are pretty impartial to.
Still no teeth for you! We are not looking forward to you teething.

You had a cold this month, it wasn't your first, but it was the first you've had in a number of months (you got one soon after you were born because I was s…

Lorelai's 8 Month Photos

Our little girl had her 8 month photo shoot...and what a cute little Mary Poppins she turned out to be!  Each month we have so much fun taking her photos in one of the many themes we've created! s
