Baby Journal: 7 Months Old

Dear Lorelai,
I can't believe you are already 7 months old...its going by way too fast. You are absolutely amazing. You aren't crawling yet...but we expect it ANY day now. You love to do your "downward dog" pose,. and get up on your knees and rock back and forth.

This month you took another flight to see Memore and Granddad in Denver. You did great considering we kept you up waaaaayyy too late on the flight (Because your mother is cheap and had to get the least expensive tickets there are!)
You laugh all the time, talk a lot, and just all around love to be you. You are loving the baby pool we have at the house, and would love to play in the water all day long. You still topple over sometimes, but for the most part are sitting really well.
We are an absolute joy to be around! You're eating prunes like your life depended on it, and love just about any food (except peas right now).
You still sleep great, around a 11 hours each night, with 3 naps during the day. And…

Lorelai's 7 Month Photoshoot

Our little Lorelai is turning 7 months old, and she picked Cinderella for this month's photoshoot! This girl cleaned grandma and grandpa's house for them during her photo session (that is everything that was a foot off the ground, because that was as high as she could reach!)

How I made an extra $1,500 this week...and so can you!

This week I made an extra $1,519 without ever leaving the comfort of my computer. This isn't a gimmick or a scam, and it didn't take me too long (maybe 2 hours tops). Earning money can be done in all sorts of ways! So here are the actual ways I earned $1,519 this week!
1. Requested a re-quote on my home insurance. My home insurance went up $100 this year, so I requested that my insurance agent re-quote with another carrier. She dropped my homeowners by $300 just by switching insurance companies. Just think, not only am I saving $300 this year, but potentially in future years if I would have just paid the increase every year.
2.  Requested a re-quote on my auto insurance. We bundle our home/auto because you often get a discount. Even though my auto wasn't going up, that doesn't mean you shouldn't shop around again! We did this and just re-quoting the auto with a new carrier dropped our bill $163 every 6 months ($326 a year).
3. Checked the coverage information that…

First Time Flying With Baby

Our little girl was just over 3 months old when we took her first flight, and took her most recent one at 6 months...and we've learned quite a few thing when it comes to taking a flight with a baby. Here are a few things we were glad we knew, or wish we would have known!
All airlines we searched said that a child under the age of 2 flies free, but that's assuming they sit on a lap and don't take up a seat. So you would need one adult per every child under the age of 2. We found that some airlines have discounted tickets for babies if you want to pay for a seat.
You get a seat-less ticket at the Check-In counter for baby, so even if you aren't checking bags, you need to stop by the desk. Security will look for the ticket when you walk through.
I read that some airlines also allow you to carry-on a pump for free in addition to other carry-on bags since it is considered a medical item.

Research online what document you need for baby in order to get the baby on the flig…

Biblical Stewardship of Money

Recently I was asked to lead a class at church about women and money. The individual that asked is a reader of our blog, and clearly knows that I have a passion for preaching at people teaching people.
I began by thinking back to my posts with the most views...which would be the most appropriate to discuss in our class. Which are most universal, not directed at a particular age group or circumstance? I determined none of these posts get to the crux of the importance of managing your money.
I've left a very important person out of most of my posts, and that is God. We are called to be stewards of our money. God gives us money as a blessing, and wants us to bless others with it.

It isn't a post about God's will and managing money for a household without a brief discussion on household roles. I'll leave my interpretation of women's roles in the home/church at my personal dwelling for this one, but I will say I don't believe God requires the man to manage the financ…

Book Suggestion for Moms (and Dads)

The best book I've read in the last year is this book: Preparing for Baby: All the Legal, Financial, Tax, and Insurance Information New and Expectant Parents Need
I was not asked to talk about this book, paid to review it, or anything of the like. A lawyer friend suggested I pick this up when I was researching how best to save for Lorelai's college...and I must say. Every single mom needs this book.
That being said, I actually preferred to read it after the chaos that was my daughter's first 4 months of life. It was after that time I started thinking of things like updating a will, setting up a college savings plan, and life insurance. Had I read this while pregnant and "preparing for baby" I would have been overloaded. So much of it you can't actually do until you've had your little one...so it really just creates a list for you of things to do, that you can't actually start checking off until they've arrived (that sounds like torture to me!)
