Saving for Your Child's College

Let me start by saying...no one said you have to save for your child's college. College may not be in your kid's future, you may not have the ability to provide for their college financially, or you may not want to! All of that is just fine, if you're wanting to put something away to assist your kid with college, but have absolutely no idea where to start (like we were just a few months ago) then this post is for you!
Kevin and I decided we would like to help Lorelai with college if she chooses to do that. My main concerns:
-We are still so young, and plan to have a lot of living left to do. There are a lot of unknowns and I'm afraid to lock money away we may need in the future. For example, even though we have a great start to our retirement, what if something happens that inhibits us from putting more money away for the next 30 years (loss of a job, a disability etc.) -What if Lorelai chooses not to go to college, or doesn't need the money later for other reason…

Our Nursing Journey

Often when there is a turning point in my life, I don't realize it until months or years down the road. For example thinking back on how Kevin and I came to start dating, taking the LSAT on a whim which lead me to law school, or my choice to change career paths...all of which I didn't realize their significance until many many months later.
This was not one of those times. I realized immediately that this week was a huge turning point in my relationship with my daughter.
Normally I stray from controversial topics...but when it comes to how to feed your baby, I'm jumping in on this one. Why? Because I have strong feelings on the topic.
My feelings are....do what is best for you and your baby.
I've already shared that nursing was not easy for us. I called my sister bawling a lot those first 2 weeks. She was absolutely amazing. She knew exactly what to say and it was "you don't have to do this."
Being told I didn't have to made me ease up a little, …

Baby Journal: 5 Months

Dear Lorelai,
You are now 5 months old. Let me just say Month 4 brought on a whole new set of challenges and rewards. For example, you did start sleeping really well. You often sleep 9-10 hours at night, with one record-breaking 13 hour night. Let me just say how rewarding that is after the lack of sleep we've experienced the last few months. That being said, we know it may not last, because you often roll on your tummy and can't get back over.
I absolutely LOVE your personality shining through right now. You love to smile! Your smile is amazing. You chat with us a lot, and just are so much fun. You're grabbing things like crazy, and your aim to your mouth has gotten significantly better.
You still hate to sit. You like to plank rather than sit, and it is hilarious. That being said, you stand great. You could stand all day long. You even do this cute little thing where you pick up your feet like you're ready to walk.
You're not ready for food quite yet, but getting…

Lorelai's 5 Month Photos

This little girl is so grown up, I just can't stand it! Our little mermaid is quite the model at this point, getting her photo sessions done in about 5 minutes total per outfit. We love her smiles and her personality shining through!

#MomLife

There simply aren't enough mom bloggers out there who tell you the truth about what being a new mom is like. It is crazy hard, and those moms who are posting just the "good" are killing those of us who can't figure out why we can't be exactly like you. The ones who seemingly curl their hair every morning, wake up in time for yoga and enjoy a cup of coffee on the porch with a sleeping baby in your arms...and to those of you who post picture perfect dinners that you just whipped up while your child is napping, that have the exact right proportions of meats to veggies. Either you are a WAY better mom than me, or you're faking it....and I am pretty sure you are faking it.
The seasoned mothers out there may be reading this post, quietly nodding your head thinking "Finally, she has learned..." because I truly thought once my daughter arrived I could have it all, do it all, and not even skip a beat.
The first 3 months of my daughter's life was extre…

Lorelai's 4 Month Photos

For Lorelai's 4 month photo shoot...we decided on two different themed photo sessions for this one--Her dad wanted "Game of Thrones" while I wanted "Beauty and the Beast" which means we just had to do both! Our beautiful little girl is growing up so quickly!

Baby Journal: 4 Months Old

Dear Lorelai,
Today you are 4 months old. When everyone told me that time would fly by, I didn't believe them...now...I do. I cannot believe you are already 4 months old. This month has been my absolute favorite. You smile like crazy now, and you give the absolute biggest smiles when you wake up in the morning and one of us comes to get you out of your crib. You also have grown out of your tummy issues, so I am no longer on the MSPI diet...and I'm thrilled. Not just for my sake, but because you are so happy now that your tummy doesn't hurt.

Don't get me wrong, you still cry... a lot....but those first 3 months you seemed to cry anytime you were awake. It was absolutely exhausting.

You're sleeping really well, sometimes 8 hours at a time at night. A "normal" night you wake up just once, which is letting us finally get some sleep. We had to stop swaddling you at the very end of your 3rd month, because we knew you were about to roll over...and guess what...y…
