Baby Journal: 3 Months Old

Dear Lorelai,
You are already three months old, and I just can't believe it. Your dad realized that you've been in our lives for a almost year now, as we found out about you about a year ago. Your smile, is the absolute best thing in the world. You smile more at your dad than at your mom...but if you're dad isn't around you give me plenty of great smiles.
You're starting to notice a bottle and know that it means it's time to eat. You watch Lady sometimes, but your true love is the T.V. If we are on the couch with the T.V on, we have to flip you around to face us...or else we find you will stare at the T.V forever! You also are noticing faces more and more, which isn't always a good thing since you seem to have a lot of "stranger danger" instincts (which your mother didn't have enough of growing up).
We still haven't gotten you to giggle yet, but we assume it is any day now! You had a lot of rough sleeps this last month, but near the en…

A Lawyer's Task List for New Parents

The hat I'm putting on today is my "lawyer" hat! That means I'm getting into all those yucky boring things you really don't WANT to think about...but really should (because ignoring it doesn't make it disappear!) This is especially focused on new parents, but it applies whether you are new parents, old parents or not parents at all...here are a few things you should really consider with a big life event:
Make a basic will. I'm not saying go out and get a lawyer (although us lawyers do like that) but just make a basic will...I don't care if it's from Willmaker (I love Quicken products, and have heard great things about this one). You may even have legal insurance you can sign up for through your employer that covers a free will every year (both my employer and Kevin's previous one offered this). You may be thinking "we have no assets...why?" Well before law school I thought that too. If your death is by a sudden accident that involve…

The Postpartum Truth...

...why my wedding ring still doesn't fit and other fun facts about life 3 months postpartum
I decided if I wrote a book right now, the above would be the title.
When you're pregnant you dream (extremely vivid dreams since those are the only kind you have when you're pregnant) of the glory days that will come after you deliver the babe living inside of your abdomen. You remember the variety of clothes you used to be able to wear that have been shoved in the back of your closet, the little hop to your step when you weren't lugging around another human being (you refuse to admit much of the weight is that extra box of girl scout cookies you justified gobbling down for the sake of needing to give nutrients to that growing baby) and the the days when people used to say "hey you look awesome" rather than "gosh you're huge!"
Well, I'm here to tell you...life doesn't change quite as much as you think after that little bundle arrives...or at lea…

DIY Picture Board Book $8

As Lorelai grows up, we thought it would be a great idea to start working on family names and faces. Since not everyone in our family lives in town, or in our state, I came up with a simple picture book to learn our family! I love that this is a book totally unique to her, where she can learn the names and faces of our family members and we can take the opportunity to tell her all about each one of them!

Supplies:  Blank Board Book: We used thissmall 5x5 bookfor $5, but we also have this one which is8x8 for $6 that we are using for a book Kevin is making. Both are great Elmers Spray Glue we found was the best for sticking down pictures smoothly, but you could use any glue on hand.  Photos-printed for $2-$3 total Scissors

Yes, it is as simple as it looks. Cut out your photos, spray them down with glue and you're good to go. I like the 5x5 because I didn't have to worry about resizing, I just printed photos as 4x6 prints, and trim them down as needed. If you wanted more room, you…

Baby Journal: 10 Weeks Old

Dear Lorelai,
Today you are 10 weeks old little one. You amaze me every single day. I've been back at work for 2 weeks now, and you're still not entirely adjusted in your sleep schedule but you're doing awesome. Your dad sends me photos multiple times a day, so it makes being away from you so much easier.
You still absolutely love to stretch out, especially on your changing table where you can both look out the window and be closer to our faces. You smile and talk to us the most when you are there.
This week especially you are eating like a champ. You are right on target for height and weight, and you have a large head...which really just means you're smarter than all those other small headed babies.

You love walks. On our last walk you were in the carrier and you stared up at the sky the whole time and loved it. I think you enjoy the brisk air, so I'll be curious if you still love them in summer.
You're getting to be such a big girl, it happened so gradu…

4th Anniversary

Every year Kevin and I take a photo the month of our anniversary to capture the year. We always try to incorporate whatever the traditional "gift" is for that anniversary...this year was flowers!
Often times we get another photographer to capture these moments for us, but since we are dealing with a new baby (and a postpartum mom who doesn't love how she looks in pictures at the moment) we decided to go with a tripod for our anniversary photos.
For our 4th anniversary the traditional gift is flowers...so we tried to embrace some last-minute floral for these photos! Each year I try to think back on what this year of marriage has been like...and it has been wonderful. We were able to travel to Australia, New Zealand, and a babymoon in Europe not to mention various other weekend trips. We bought a house this year...found out we were pregnant and had a baby. It has been truly wonderful, and we are learning so much more about year other with each passing year. Kevin is embrac…

Our 2 Month Old

Our little girl is now 2 months old...and I can't believe it. This was the first week that I looked at her and though "wait a second...this girl looks like a little baby now...not just a squirmy newborn." I also captured a photo this weekend where it was the first time I thought she looked like me. It's amazing how much she is changing.
She is holding her head up really well now, and she smiles like crazy (although not in these photos...I didn't catch her at a great time). We are still waiting for her to laugh, but we are hoping it is soon! She LOVES baths, I mean absolutely adores them, and laying out on her changing table by the window is where we get the most smiles from her. She is eating great (we will have her 2 month checkup later this week, and I'm certain she is gaining weight well). She doesn't cry quite so much getting into her car seat anymore, and has just found the mirror that we have in the car to keep and eye on her...and she loves watch…
