2nd Night in the Hospital

These photos were taken after our first night in the hospital.... this is important to say because there is no way I would have been this happy after night 2.

The primary thing I wish someone would have told me about the hospital is that night 2 can be a nightmare. Every baby is different but it took until about 4 am after literally hours of uncontrollable crying for me to finally consider this may be a trend and to Google it. Thankfully Google put my mind at ease this time  (rather than telling me my baby had some long extinct illness )
The first night at the hospital was just hard enough to think "hey we got this down" without being too easy that I thought "wait...could this be too easy?"
The second night...oh my goodness. It was night and day. She would not...stop...crying...
We learned babies often cluster feed or atleast find crazy amounts of comfort that second night by being at your chest. They are so exhausted from birth that first night that they sleep pret…

First Photo Sessions

This is truly an excuse to share a few photos we've taken of Lorelai this past week...she is just so darn cute I can't stop!

Baby Journal: Birth Day

Dear Lorelai,
There are so many things that I could say regarding what labor is like but everyone has a story to share and none of the stories really help to calm the nerves or explain how and the other person is labor is like.
We were scheduled to be induced at 5 p.m. the day before your birthday however because of the busy Hospital schedule it was pushed back to 10 p.m. start time. When we arrived your dad and I were more excited than nervous. After getting all settled in we started medication to induce labor. I'd been having contractions for about 8 hours prior, but nothing very painful so it was hard to say when you would ever arrive or--if those contractions would result in labor. First of all, contractions really suck. Yes, they started out pretty easy and I wondered if that's really what it was for a number of hours...but they get worse. By the time the morning hit I was in crazy amounts of pain and the doctor went through a number of other methods to try and get me to…

Baby Journal: Week 40

Hi Lorelai,
You know there isn't supposed to be a "Week 40" right?? You're supposed to come right when I turn 40 weeks. That being said, we didn't make it all the way through to Week 41 because I was just dying to see you. You made it to about 40 weeks and 5 days.
So here is how Week 40 went:
Week 40 Day 0: Today is your due date! We had a great doctor's appointment, saw I was having a few contractions. Your heartbeat was awesome, and we are on track for being induced Tuesday night if you don't come before then! I'm still sick and on antibiotics, but can start to see the light at the end of this sickness...finally!
Week 40 Day 1: My cough is almost gone, which is wonderful. The weather is terrible here, so we stayed in, relaxed and kept warm! We really would love for you to come on your own, so I'm trying to bounce on the exercise ball a bit more...so still it's a no-go! We spent the day making headbands for you!

Week 40 Day 2: Finally feeli…

How to Apply for A Passport for Your Newborn Baby

Anyone else have amazing plans for traveling with their baby? As most of you know...Kevin and I LOVE to travel and we want to make sure that we have everything lined up for when Lorelai takes her first international trip. (we are hoping for a quick one this Spring....but we will see). Waiting on a passport is the LAST thing you want to deal with when it comes to hindering your travel plans.
My sister also loves to travel, and her little girl is about 4 months old now, so we decided to work on her passport photo for her application until Lorelai arrives and we can apply for her passport!
A couple interesting facts about passports for babies:
Your baby's passport is good for 5 years, just like any other minor. I know a baby changes a ton during those 5 years, but may as well get it early if you think you'll be planning a trip for him/her!

If you've never gotten a passport for a minor child before (if you got one when you were a minor your parents probably took care of thi…

Baby Journal: Week 39

Hi Lorelai,
Today is your due date...and you're supposed to be making an appearance, but I think I've made things a little too easy for you lately. You have zero desire to come out right now.
At the end of Week 38 I came down with a terrible cold, but it just kept getting worse throughout Week 39. My voice is lost, I have trouble sleeping (and not because of the baby), the coughing and congestion is just terrible. I will say the one good thing that came out of it, is I was dreading those last couple weeks of pregnancy because everyone says you are miserable...and I've been just praying to be back to "normal 39 weeks pregnant" because the cold is what was making me miserable. I'm still really sick right now, but am on antibiotics finally to help.

(This is one of the only photos I have from Week 39...can I at least say that my camera is a wide angle on the edges when I take a selfie? Yes....I'm big right now...but that photo is a little misleading)
 At th…

Baby Journal: Week 38

Hi Lorelai,
Okay....any day now.....
I know you've got a few more days now til your due date, but really are ready for you to come. It's for your best interest too....because having your birthday so close to Christmas is going to be not as fun!
We had a pretty relaxing weekend, and although we had 4 photo sessions, we didn't have much else on the books so we could keep relaxing! Your dad and I are trying to spend more time just the two of us, going out to eat and visiting places around Omaha that we like. We haven't been as good at going to movies, which your dad loves, but are still hoping to get in some of those things before you arrive!
At your doctor's appointment this week everything is looking good! We set a date to be induced, as the doctor is assuming right now you won't be arriving anytime soon (let's prove her wrong okay?)
We've started another house project which was hiring some painters for the unfinished portion of the basement. Your dad w…
