Baby Journal: Week 24

Hi Lorelai,

This week has been quite exciting! You took your first flight overseas and at the end of this week you successfully explored Amsterdam! We are at the very start of our "Babymoon" in Europe right now, so you have a lot more exploring to do before we are done! You had one day of Week 24 in Amsterdam, so for most of the rest of the trip you'll be rocking Week 25!

Your dad and I will not ever get sick of feeling you kick, I love it every single day.

Flying while pregnant went pretty well, but I'm glad we are doing short train rides the rest of our trip. It is already hard to get comfortable on an overseas flight without being pregnant. Plus getting my required amount of water on a plane is impossible (flight attendents are so stingy!)
I can see you move more regularly now (like where my belly actually moves) and your dad can see it too...which really freaks me out...but I love knowing you're alive and well!
Symtoms: Oh my goodness...the swelling. This h…

Things I've Learned to Love & Hate at the End of My Second Trimester

I am just a few short weeks away from Third Trimester (or I like to think of it as one amazing trip to Europe away!) and pregnancy has brought about an entirely new realm of loves and hates for me. Here are just a handful (I decided rather than write this as a giant rant...I'd give myself 20 minutes to write...and anything left off the list was just going to have to wait). So here we go!

Hates
Shoes with buckles. Allow me to me paint you a picture, sit down and put a volleyball on your lap....now don't move it and then bend down to buckle a shoe that requires both hands. Can't breathe? Yeah, me neither.
Purses. I don't want one more pound weighing me down. If I have my phone and credit card...my life is basically complete.
People that park too close to my car. You know when someone parks over the line, and you park next to them anyway and just figure you'll "suck it in" when you try to get out of your car door? (or even worse is when you park just fine, a…

Baby Journal: Week 23

Hi Lorelai,
Okay you can stop growing now...you're making me....well...large. We noticed before, but definitely noticed this week...you love donuts. If I want you to move, a donut does the trick!
You are making mom a lot more tired than I used to be...especially when I have a long day of photographing!

I learned this week that it's not just in my head...Kevin noticed too that people stare at us sometimes and you can tell they are thinking we are too young to have kids. I'm mistaken for teenager more often than I care to admit, and somehow getting pregnant has made me appear even younger. Kevin noticed someone giving us the once over at the mall this weekend and you could just read their face "Oh those poor kids don't have a chance...too bad they made that mistake." I wasn't even wearing my high school juicy sweatpants that day and high school bulldogs shirt (joking...I don't have either of those...but Kevin would like you to know I still wear my midd…

Things Not to Say to A Pregnant Lady

Rolling off my previous post regarding all the things NOT to say to someone when they announce they are pregnant...here are a few things you should NEVER say to someone who is pregnant, no matter what stage in pregnancy we are at.

Don't guess how far along they are. You may be an expert guesser...but now is not the time. If you're going to guess despite my suggestion...its your funeral.   Not long ago I had a stranger guess I was multiple...multiple weeks further along than I was. Since this is entirely based on the size of my stomach, what I heard was "Man, you look huge, hopefully its your baby taking up all that space in there, or else you're really packing on the pounds." Other related comments "Are you sure you're not having twins?", "You're huge!", "Whoa....." This also goes for telling someone they don't look pregnant. I had this happen the exact same week, by a sales clerk (who coincidentally was the first time I&…

Baby Journal: Week 22

Hi Baby,
We are trucking along here in pregnancy! You and I are doing great taking photos and working lots! That being said, I sure rest more than I used to....and your dad and I have started a TV show together lately to help me sit and stay calm more often.
You didn't move as much this week, but I think that is mainly because I was moving so much that I didn't get to feel you move.
The best part is...you have a name! Well 2/3rds of your name (first, last....no middle). We picked this name out for you while we were in Brazil last summer....and we are pretty excited for you to arrive. We (okay...maybe your mom had a big say in this one) are a big fan of nicknames at birth. We've already decided we will be calling you Lilah.
What else have we done? We went ahead and started on your baby registry, because with everything we have going on we know the September and October are going to fly by. We barely have a minute of free time to ourselves that we will be in town (your dad…

Paying off Your Mortgage Early

And you all thought that with all this baby talk I'd be out of the financial blogging part of this little adventure. WRONG! You may recall that in February 2015 we paid off our $100,000 in student loan debt (in about 2 years) but doing some radical changes to our lifestyle and working our tooshies off. We blogged throughout that entire journey, which you can read here
We totally lived in up for a little over a year being debt free. In that year & 4 months, we took a trip to Ireland, Egypt, multiple trips to Colorado, LA (Disneyland of course), Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, Chicago, and New England.....We also paid cash for a brand new car, and started saving up for a 20% down payment on a home. We even made some career changes as a result of our new found freedom of being debt free. This included closing down a couple side businesses, turning down a higher paying job because I knew I wouldn't love it as much...and as a result of turning that job down, I was available …

Baby Journal: Week 21

Hi Baby,

This week we had a lot of family over to visit. Your dad's family came into town, and we thought it would be a great reason to have people over to our place, announce the gender, and enjoy family time. We found out your gender in Week 20, but didn't announce it until Week 21.

Your families are so excited to meet you, and are thrilled you're a girl! They would have liked either :) Everyone loves you very much.
I'm honestly loving 2nd trimester. I've heard it called the "honeymoon" stage....so I'm dreading a little each week that passes realizing its going to be over before I know it. We have a lot planned in the 3rd trimester, and I want to make sure I'm doing everything I can to keep up with photography during this time.
You do kick a lot more than you used to, which right now isn't too distracting but on occasion when you're really moving I can't help but focus only on what you are doing.
At 21 weeks I'm starting to hav…
