Baby (Number 2) Journal: Week 25

Dear Pepper,

This week I decided to move that glucose test because of all the candy I planned to consume (don't worry, next week it is!). Lately, you're making it a lot more difficult to go from sitting on the floor with Lorelai to standing.

It's hard to believe there are just 15 weeks left in pregnancy. Its going to be a long 15 weeks...but we will get there! We are nearing the end of 2nd trimester already...which is shocking.

This time last pregnancy we hadn't found a middle name for your big sister either...and we are still struggling with one for you!

Halloween was this week, which was a lot of fun seeing Lorelai get dressed up this year. Kevin and I went to a party dressed up, then he got in costume with her again for Halloween night.

I think the biggest surprise this pregnancy has still been how much you move. I really do not remember Lorelai kicking and squirming this much.

We are debt free!

This blog was once created as a way to share our debt-free journey when we were first married. This was a looonnnng 7 years ago. We had $100,000 of student loan debt which we paid off 2 years after getting married. A short year+ later we bought a house. A small $140,000 bungalow, had a baby, and quickly realized that cute old house was not for us. 15 months later we sold it and bought the house we live in now. We sold the house for a small profit, working our little tooshies off, and we enjoyed blogging through the entire journey. Now, with more work and 31 months later...we are debt free once again.

It's hard to believe we've accomplished so much in that time. 3.5 years ago we made the decision that Kevin would stay home with the kids (just one kid at that time) shortly after I took a new job. I've now been at that job almost 5 years, we have another child...its been a whirlwind.

Our last 31 months to become debt-free was a huge accomplishment for us. We struggled with a…

Ready to pay off your mortgage? Here is what you need to know

What does it look like when you have pay off your mortgage? First it looks AWESOME! But here are a few things you may want to know

Know this won't be the last of your expenses. Remember that your mortgage payment is made up of property taxes, insurance, principal payment and interest. You're only getting rid of the principal and interest payment. That means you will still owe property taxes and homeowners insurance. Look up when both are due on your county assessor website, put it on your calendar, and be prepared to save that amount to pay directly instead of through your mortgage. For example for our home, we will still need to save about $800/month to be able to pay our taxes and homeowners insurance. (Note: We have pretty high property taxes where we live...so yours may be significantly more or less depending on where in the country you live.)

Start by calling your mortgage company for a payoff amount. If you've worked to pay off debt with interest, you probably already …

The Budget Travelers: What we are doing in these uncertain times

A lot is going on right now.  Our routine has been thrown out the window, and I've learned to be more flexible than I ever thought possible. As budget travelers, this is such a weird time....something I never could have dreamed up if I tried.

First, let me just say, we are staying home. As much as it kills me to pass up all these dirt cheap flights...it isn't worth the risk. Being a budget traveler doesn't mean you grab up any deal you see. The cruise ship scenarios that kicked off the U.S pandemic is a great example. Sure it was a great deal on cruise ships for those couple weeks...but at what cost?! To be a successful budget traveler, you have to be smart about what deals your are buying up.

So what are we doing?

We are canceling trips...but only when we feel confident it is needed. We had a family trip to Hilton Head planned for this May. I was beyond excited. It was our first chill beach vacation as family. I planned it out perfectly to get the best deal, signed up for a…
