Working Mom Week

There are things I used to think were crazy or excessive...until I became a working mom. Now, I totally understand why there are services out there that seemed incredibly silly (and maybe for a lazy person) that I now understand 100%. Here are a few of those things this week that I utilized.

Online Grocery Shopping- Online grocery shopping is my saving grace. I've used local grocery stores but now my go-to is Walmart because of nearness to my home, ease of website use and prices. This mom looks for things to make my life easier, and Walmart is a winner. If you haven't tried it, here is $10 off your first order.

Emeals- A friend suggested I try this app...and I've been loving it this week. It gives you meal recipes based on the category you choose, for example you can pick Budget Meals or 30 Minute Meals, or meals you Grill, or kid friendly...all sorts of categories! But here is the best part...after you select your meals it syncs to your online grocery order! So you can pick/choose what items you may already have in your pantry or if you want name brand/store brand...but then it prompts you through each item to add to your cart. It is amazing. ($5/month for a yearly subscription--but I heard they are having a sale right now for 50% off)

Online Grocery Shopping and Delivery for Activities/Events- This is a new one for me to try this week...ordering online grocery and having it delivered somewhere other than your home. This week I signed up to bring cookies to a church event, and knew halfway through the week I was not going to be in the area. Thankfully I ordered from the local grocery store (Hy-Vee) and had 3 dozen cookies delivered directly to the church office. The delivery fee for a small order ($4.95) was way worth the hassle of running to the store and making it over there. Normally I would have scoffed at a delivery fee and done it myself to save money, only to waste at least an hour of my time trying to run to the store, then church.

Amazon Services- I first became familiar with this when I saw next to a $20 coffee table, I could have someone come over and build it for $100 added on to my amazon order. I thought...WHAT that is crazy? And then I found myself really needing a new deadbolt for our new home. We actually had zero deadbolt before this, so it means there was no hole in our door, or anything at this point. Could we do it ourselves...probably. However, we found that for a little over $100 I could have someone come out and do it for us, and amazon agrees to cover any damage etc. I just envisioned ourselves going out, buying new pieces for our drill to drill a giant hole in the door...and putting it in the wrong place. So the $100 fee for this was more than worth the time/hassle of us trying to do this on our own.

Online scheduling- I'm not saying I will pick a hair stylist, physician or car repair shop based on whether they will allow for online scheduling.....but let's just say mine conveniently allow me to schedule without picking up a phone. I love this feature more than anything. Being able to realize at 11:00 p.m or 6 a.m that I need to schedule that appointment, and actually be able to do so is AWESOME. My life doesn't conform to a regular 8-5 schedule, so the more email and online scheduling the better!

Other honorable mentions?

Online check depositing- I switched banks a few years ago in large part due to being able to electronically deposit my checks easier at this new bank.

Amazon Prime- Is amazon taking over the world? Yes. Am I disappointed? Not in the least.

Target redcard shipping- I have a target redcard that I absolutely love. Free shipping plus 5% off on all purchases. I literally was in target this week shopping while ordering other things on my app...because multi-tasking means double the shopping in the same time.

Venmo/Paypal- I never carry cash. So the more friends that take one of these forms of payment the better. I've started using Venmo this week when I sell things on the Facebook marketplace. So easy, so convenient. Cash is a thing of the past for me.

Traveling with Kids: Setting them up for successful flight

Each flight we take with our kids, we are often overwhelmed by fellow passengers commenting on how great our children travel. I won't even pretend that it has anything to do with my parenting or my children's innate ability to be good travelers. By no means does that come without a lot of behind the scenes work, thought and preparation. Our children are not naturally good travelers...rather we do everything possible to set them up for a successful (i.e. enjoyable, quiet, and somewhat relaxing) flight.

Do you want a toddler that doesn't make a peep when you travel? How about a baby who doesn't fuss too much? Here are a few of our secrets to setting your children up for a successful flight
It starts before you even book your trip.
Schedule your flight at a time that works well with your child's sleep schedule. That means no getting in at midnight, no leaving at 5 a.m...and for us we often try to avoid nap time as much as possible (once are kids are down to 1 nap a day…

Things You Learn About The Newborn Phase The Second Time Around

Look, we've all been there. As a first time mom you are totally crazy. You need every little thing imaginable to be able to raise your baby. Your baby has more places to be set down than you have chairs for everyone  else in your house...crib, saucer, bumbo, highchair, rock-n-play, play mat, swing...you get my point.
Now second time around, you might just do things a little differently! Here are a few things I learned my second time around:

My biggest secret? Your baby wakes up less at night the lower you turn down the monitor volume.
Think on that a minute...does that make me a bad mom? No! It means that I'm not waking up at every little thing! And allows Pepper learn to put herself back to sleep on her own after playing/talking a bit.

Don't even bother buying a baby book or it will be filled with "Date baby laughed 3 months?"  Yep..the question mark is actually written in the baby book, because I'm not 100% sure when she laughed.

You will forget everything tha…

Omaha Performing Arts: WeBop

If you're anything like me, you want to find all kinds of activities for your kids to get involved in as a way to educate, entertain and cultivate their physical and mental growth. For little ones, sometimes that is difficult to find. We've explored swim classes, sports, gymnastics...all great things, but we really wanted to look at something else for Lorelai to experience.

Music is such an important part of a child's life. Personally I believe that my involvement in music at a young age made me more successful and well-rounded! Due to involvement in choir, musicals and band I was able to gain confidence at a young age for public speaking, since I was familiar with standing in front of an audience. I also feel that reading music is such a great skill for children to learn as they grow older, along with familiarity with instruments, and to appreciate the arts. Not only that, music can help a child learn and retain information (example...do you still sing your ABC's in y…
