Last week I read "A Simplified Life: Tactical Tools For Intentional Living" I've read a lot of books on cleaning (tidyng), organizing and how to take control of your life. They all had a lot of steps and seemed like a TON of work to implement. But this one was different, and it didn't just talk about your "stuff" it went through everything from meal planing, to finances, organizing your phone to digital photos on your computer.
I've had friends (and strangers since we opened it up to people that were already coming to pickup certain items from the facebook marketplace) send photos and words of excitement after bringing their pieces home. Anything left over got put in a pile for goodwill or given to family who often trade clothes (my cousins and I have always given each other boxes of clothes before goodwill, to make sure if someone wants them first, they can have them). It was a wonderful feeling.
First of all, everything in my life for the first time EVER can fit in my closet and dresser. And I have an empty drawer in my dresser, and lots of room in my closet. It feels AMAZING. I've always been one of those people who switches out boxes for the season because not everything fits. Not anymore! My tank tops and shorts are currently in my dresser as well. Even better, I can already tell a change. Everything in my dresser/closet FIT! Which post-baby has been a struggle for me. I had so many clothes, but it was so discouraging because only a small portion of my closet, and 2 drawers actually were clothes I could wear at the moment. I can already tell this not only will save me time when I'm getting ready in the mornings, but it starts me off on a much happier note because there isn't a constant reminder of what I could be wearing, if I only shed those last 10 lbs.
So it's a start. A small start, but a great one!
And even better, this book is gorgeous to read. The hard cover, bookmark, beautiful photos throughout....it inspired me to live a more simplified life and have the intentional living mindset.
I'm in no way "there" yet, but I'm making be strides.
My first step was immediately after starting this book I went through ALL my clothes. I pulled out about 300 pieces of shirts, dresses, shoes, belts necklaces...the works. I threw it all in my living room and invited friends to come over and pick anything they want for $1.
I made a little money (About $150) but the goal was that people found things they would use, lessen my trip to goodwill and honestly there getting rid of my stuff is really hard for me, and there is something about getting just a $1 that makes me WAY more able to get rid of things.
This was a blast, my friends loved it and it inspired many of them to do the same...which I love and will certainly visit their homes when they do it.
