It isn't a highlight of areas in Omaha without visiting the infamous Downtown Omaha. The Old Market is the heart of the downtown area, and full of some amazing places. I will say, my favorite event that occurs in the Old Market is the Saturday Farmer's Market! From handmade mugs to veggies (and corn galore!) this is the epitome of shopping local. The farmers market is one of our absolute favorite places in all of Omaha. Lorelai loves to people watch (or dog-watch is more like it) and I love being able to have home-grown tomatoes without actually having to grow them myself.
Jazz, A Louisiana Kitchen is our favorite local eat downtown. The atmosphere, the food...the music! Everything about Jazz is a blast. They may have a live band playing in their faux French Quarter-looking balcony, or play trivia on a weeknight...it always has something to look forward to and we love the Cajun/Creole food!
Stop by the Old Market Candy Shop to pick up some of my personal favorite candy...black licorice. Okay, but really you can get tons of great candy here if that isn't your style. Perhaps some fudge or old fashioned candy buttons?
Want to expand your mind with a little art? Stop by the Artist's Cooperative Gallery. It is an artist run gallery, and is ever changing. You'll see some of the amazing work from our local artists in here!
We love the name of this next one....Local offers great burgers (even better tots in my opinion) and over 100 local craft beers. The patio at the downtown location offers something a little further from the hustle of the heart of the Old Market, which can be pretty crowded on the weekends.
Imaginarium Antiques is the quirkiest of the antique stores. Maybe you'll find some 1980s troll dolls you played with as a kid, perhaps a costume for Halloween, or maybe some records. You have no idea what you'll find and you could spend hours looking and still miss some of the goodies it has to offer!
Finally, I have to mention just walking around the Old Market is a joy even without shopping or eating. We love the brick walls, worn paint and brick streets!
Why are we highlighting local businesses within the community? Our neighbors, friends and family are all influenced...both directly and indirectly by small business success, and when we come together, we grow as one! First National Bank of Omaha is sponsoring this post, but all thoughts are mine.
