Do you know what Nebraska spelled backwards is? Aksarben! We absolutely love how vibrant this area of Omaha has become. Nestled next to the Omaha college campus, this area is full of surprises.
Our favorite thing about Aksarben Village is their Sunday farmer's market, where you can buy trinkets, clothes, produce, baked goods...all sorts of wonderful things! They also offer specialty events and markets, such as the Holiday Market! This year it will be December 2 & 3rd, it is an amazing event you don't want to miss!
If you're visiting in the morning, stop by Juice Stop for a quick and delicious morning treat! Healthy fruit smoothies with no sugary purees! There are few things I love more than a good smoothie.
Ready for a few of our favorite Aksarben Village eateries? Mai Thai has two locations now, but my personal favorite location is Aksarben Village. Delicious Asian Fusion. I'm a bit of a spice-whimp so I especially love that you get to specifically identify the level of spiciness of your dish!
You may have noticed we haven't mention any Mexican restaurants in our review of Omaha, and that is due my general dislike of Mexican food. However, we do love Voodoo Taco because the different options you are able to order are delicious and don't require you to love Mexican food! If you have the opportunity to go, make sure to get a giant slice of avocado on your taco, yum!
Ready for a little shopping? Visit Luvbird Boutique, known for cute styles at affordable prices. From dresses to tops, pants and everything in between. It is worth the visit to Aksarben to do a little clothes shopping! The owner is an Omaha native, and we always love supporting our local shops!

It's not a trip to Aksarben without some coffee and dessert! Omaha's own Jones Bros. Cupcakes is a lovely place to enjoy a cupcake or perhaps a quick lunch outside in the beautiful fall weather we've been having. I've tried many cupcakes here, but a personal favorite is red velvet...yum!
Why are we highlighting local businesses within the community? Our neighbors, friends and family are all influenced...both directly and indirectly by small business success, and when we come together, we grow as one! First National Bank of Omaha is sponsoring this post, but all thoughts are mine.
