Midtown is just across the way from our last Omaha highlight, but this one has a totally different feel than both Benson and Dundee. Although Midtown has existed for quite some time, the Midtown we know today is very different from what it was 10 years ago.
This area of Omaha has been completely updated. Although it doesn't have the old Omaha charm, the updates are fantastic.
Turner Park- This is the open grass space in the middle of the shops at midtown crossing. We have attended everything from night markets to movies, holiday light shows and Cajun music. This green space is always bustling in the summer evening with free activities. Do some yoga or learn to dance at one of their free community events. This is one of our favorite hot spots in the summer especially.
Hutch- I love walking around this store. If the vintage/antique pieces found in Dundee and Benson don't strike your fancy, try the mid-century modern items in Hutch. Everything from home decor to cards, it is a beautiful store.
Spielbound- This is my personal favorite place. Actually it may be one of my all-time favorite things about Omaha. The fact Omaha can support a board-game cafe is amazing. As for its history, it was a kick-starter which is a pretty neat feat. We've enjoyed many an evening playing board games with friends, drinking coffee, and socializing. This is the perfect venue for both young and not-so-young.
Delice European Bakery & Cafe- One of my favorite desserts comes from Delice. If you try nothing else at midtown, I absolutely must insist you try a black and white brownie. Better yet, bring a friend with you to split it because it is so incredibly rich and delicious. If you have a lazy afternoon to fill, do what I enjoy and bring a book, order a latte and spend a few hours enjoying this delectable treat.
Ugly Duck- Not in the mood for dessert? Try Ugly Duck! This restaurant started as a pop-restaurant, but moved into it's current location in the last year or so. The local owners have made this your go-to ramen place in the area. From our opinion, Omaha is still relatively new to ramen, but give it a try! You'll love this Japanese American Street food.
Why are we highlighting local shops within the community? Our neighbors, friends and family are all influenced...both directly and indirectly by small business success, and when we come together, we grow as one! First National Bank of Omaha is sponsoring this post, but all thoughts are mine.
