In short, traveling with a 3 month old is...impossible to plan. I'm quite the planner, and despite my best efforts, my daughter takes true pleasure in making my life unpredictable. Traveling was no different! That being said, we an an amazing adventure this past week, and would not have changed one thing!
Not only did Lorelai have her first airplane ride, she visited 8 states during the course of a week, she spent her first night in a hotel, explored her first Airbnb (use this link for $40 off your first Airbnb), and saw some amazing tourist destinations! We started our adventure by flying into D.C. Well actually the adventure started on her first airplane ride. I will be creating a special post just for people like me who are googling like crazy about things you should know for your baby's first airplane ride...so I'll just sail over that to say the flight went superbly!
We quickly learned on this trip that we couldn't move quite as fast as we normally traveled, compared to life prior to becoming parents. I will say, traveling during the end of my second trimester did help us prepare for moving a bit more slowly.
Our two day's in D.C were a blur, but completely wonderful! Thankfully we were prepared for the first day of solid rain by purchasing a rain cover for Lorelai's carseat! We had no idea before arriving that basically everything in D.C is free! I mean every sight, museum, historical everything is free..what a joy! Not to mention D.C is an incredibly walk-able city, perfect for a baby in a stroller. Lorelai took a few naps while we were out, enjoyed stopping for meals either in the park, a coffee shop, or while we were enjoying a meal ourselves!
After spending the night in an amazing Airbnb (see photo above) we headed further north for a few more hours. We took a stop at the Statue of Liberty where we were terrible parents and woke Lorelai up for a quick photo on the island (don't worry, she fell right back asleep!)
We ended up north in Hartford where I had a work conference, but while we were there we enjoyed one of our favorite things about New England....seafood!
And throughout the trip we continued our travel tradition of taking photos at a few of our favorite sights, with our feet in the foreground...because we like to remember how our feet have brought us to so many amazing places! It also is hilarious to see how our family has grown now, and we get to have 3 sets of feet in the photo! (also getting her down there for a photo is NO EASY TASK...so I'm feeling pretty accomplished with these ones)
