Baby Journal: Week 33

Hi Lorelai,

We are done photographing weddings!!! This was my biggest concern for this late in my pregnancy, so the fact we got through it just fine is such a relief to me. We still have a good handful of sessions left for the rest of the year (about 15 or so) but weddings always take a lot out of me!

For Halloween this year we did a family theme for trunk-or-treat and dressed up as Winnie the Pooh characters. We had a blast, and you made for a wonderful belly full of honey! Your dad is so creative, and drew some cardboard decorations to go with the outfits. Thanks to a glue gun and some sold colored shirts, I took care of the rest of the costumes.

We keep saying there is an arbitrary date we would like you to wait until you come. Although I'd love it if you came exactly on your due date, anytime after December 2nd is just fine with me..so keep that in mind little one.

Your dad finished the cart for your nursery this week! Also Nay made the best signs for your nursery, which we hung up this week! That was really the last of the decorations we had planned, but who knows...I'm sure we will find more!

When we go visit your cousin,  you make a great little shelf for her to sit on!

Lady is finding ways to get comfortable on you this week. She was so mad at first that my lap had diminished, but now that she has learned she can just lay over the top of you, she doesn't mind it so much. You kick her a little, but not enough to make this stubborn thing move.

This week I also had a pregnancy massage, which was pretty wonderful. I was nervous at first, massages make me nervous...but then they brought me in to the massage table with the hole cut out for my tummy and it was magical. I hadn't realized how much I missed laying there on my stomach.

Symptoms: Kevin is still complaining about my snoring...but it is by no means a concern for me. I will say...GET OUT OF MY RIBS. I've been poking and stretching and doing just about everything I can to get you to move. You tend to favor the exact same spot, which happens to be where I tore a muscle early in pregnancy, so it makes it that much more uncomfortable. I've finally hit that stage where I am warm a lot of the time (I'm usually very cold) so for the first time I'm wearing short sleeves in the office instead of sweaters. I handed your dad some extra blankets at night too because I refuse to turn on the heat in the house. Everyone keeps saying I'll have troubles sleeping soon, but apart from my normal inability to sleep, I'm actually doing a pretty great job at it. Also, carpal tunnel is a new ailment that has come this week. Thankfully it is pretty common later in pregnancy, so a quick google search helped me identify what I was dealing with. I get to wear these sweet wrist braces at night to help with the pain...yep. There is basically nothing attractive about me at night (snoring, waking up to use the bathroom, wrist braces, and my full body encompassing pillow). Oh I also shattered one of our good bowls this week...so I'm blaming that on pregnancy clumsiness and carpal tunnel.

Promise: I promise to reign your dad in a little bit with Halloween costumes. He really really loves Halloween (basically any excuse to dress like Disney characters) so I could see him going a bit overboard. When you are old enough to have a say in what you want to be, I'll make sure to stick up for you (unless it's something scary, then I will make you dress like a Disney princess every year)

Traveling with Kids: Setting them up for successful flight

Each flight we take with our kids, we are often overwhelmed by fellow passengers commenting on how great our children travel. I won't even pretend that it has anything to do with my parenting or my children's innate ability to be good travelers. By no means does that come without a lot of behind the scenes work, thought and preparation. Our children are not naturally good travelers...rather we do everything possible to set them up for a successful (i.e. enjoyable, quiet, and somewhat relaxing) flight.

Do you want a toddler that doesn't make a peep when you travel? How about a baby who doesn't fuss too much? Here are a few of our secrets to setting your children up for a successful flight
It starts before you even book your trip.
Schedule your flight at a time that works well with your child's sleep schedule. That means no getting in at midnight, no leaving at 5 a.m...and for us we often try to avoid nap time as much as possible (once are kids are down to 1 nap a day…

Things You Learn About The Newborn Phase The Second Time Around

Look, we've all been there. As a first time mom you are totally crazy. You need every little thing imaginable to be able to raise your baby. Your baby has more places to be set down than you have chairs for everyone  else in your house...crib, saucer, bumbo, highchair, rock-n-play, play mat, swing...you get my point.
Now second time around, you might just do things a little differently! Here are a few things I learned my second time around:

My biggest secret? Your baby wakes up less at night the lower you turn down the monitor volume.
Think on that a minute...does that make me a bad mom? No! It means that I'm not waking up at every little thing! And allows Pepper learn to put herself back to sleep on her own after playing/talking a bit.

Don't even bother buying a baby book or it will be filled with "Date baby laughed 3 months?"  Yep..the question mark is actually written in the baby book, because I'm not 100% sure when she laughed.

You will forget everything tha…

Omaha Performing Arts: WeBop

If you're anything like me, you want to find all kinds of activities for your kids to get involved in as a way to educate, entertain and cultivate their physical and mental growth. For little ones, sometimes that is difficult to find. We've explored swim classes, sports, gymnastics...all great things, but we really wanted to look at something else for Lorelai to experience.

Music is such an important part of a child's life. Personally I believe that my involvement in music at a young age made me more successful and well-rounded! Due to involvement in choir, musicals and band I was able to gain confidence at a young age for public speaking, since I was familiar with standing in front of an audience. I also feel that reading music is such a great skill for children to learn as they grow older, along with familiarity with instruments, and to appreciate the arts. Not only that, music can help a child learn and retain information (example...do you still sing your ABC's in y…
